This site has a compliance policy set to block deletion

Hello.
I can't delete a Group in the Sharepoint admin centre.
Group is created in Stream.
When I try to delete I get an alert:"This site has a compliance policy set to block deletion."

DLP policies are empty.
https://compliance.microsoft.com/datalossprevention?viewid=policies

Retention policies:
https://compliance.microsoft.com/informationgovernance?viewid=retention
I have two policies which are disabled and all status buttons inside these policies are switched off.

Other groups (which are created from Teams) also cant be deleted.
Group is deleted from aad.portal.azure.com and from office365 groups.

I have found that this alert appears on Groups which have Primary Admin - Group owners.
That groups which have Primary Admin me or certain account do not show this alert.
My account is a Global Administrator, but I can't do this simple deletion.

Hi @47959159, thank you for posting in the Q&A forum.

Please check the status of the retention policies via Microsoft 365 compliance > Policies > Data > Retention: https://compliance.microsoft.com/informationgovernance?viewid=retention.

The warning message “This site has a compliance policy set to block deletion” suggests that you have a retention policy for the Office 365 group connected site currently activated or has not been turned off successfully.
In this scenario, the site cannot be deleted from SharePoint Admin Center even by the creator himself.

Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the change to take effect in your tenant, including creating a new policy, editing the policy settings, enabling or disabling the policy.

Also, even with the policy enabled, the group can be deleted from Azure portal and sent straight to the Deleted groups, but the site will remain in the current status until the policy gets turned off successfully. Then the system will do the rest of the work and delete the site for you.

Please wait for one day and see the result.

@ChelseaWu-MSFT Thank you for your quick and enhanced answer.
Currently, I have deleted all policies from Retention tab. But still deletion is not available. But from Azure group is deleted.
Will be waiting for a couple of days.

Hello,
The problem is still the same. Nothing changed. I don't know where to look for the reason.

Do you see the group listed under “Deleted groups” via Microsoft 365 admin center > Groups? Also is this group still available in Stream or when you trying to access?
If the group is deleted successfully, the site should display a 404 File Not Found error when being accessed.

Microsoft 365 admin center > Groups : is empty
Stream : empty
https://compliance.microsoft.com/informationgovernance?viewid=retention : empty (i have deleted all retention policies)

The new group created in Teams, and also has warning "This site has a compliance policy set to block deletion." when clicking on it from SharePoint Admin Center.
Primary Admin - Group owner.

That group what has Primary Admin me - does not have such a warning.
Maybe a problem is in Primary Admin (i cant it change, it assignes automatically on creation (from Teams / Stream / etc...)?

Yes, that is the default behavior for groups created in Stream/Teams that primary admin is set as Group owners. However, you can remove or change the primary admin via SharePoint site > Settings > Site permissions > Advanced permissions settings > Site Collection Administrators. Try adding your account as a site collection administrator and then see if you can delete the site via SharePoint admin center.

Please note that even when a policy is deleted, it remains in effect for 30 days. It is possible that the previous retention policies have not been turned off successfully when they were deleted. If this is no urgent business, consider waiting for a few days and see if it resolves itself.

My case was resolved by Microsoft support.
I have deleted policies without deactivating. That was the problem
