Hi

We have to migrate 4 CDP servers from windows 2008 R2 to windows 2016. Should we perform upgrade in-place ? what's the recommended approach please ?

Hi,

Upgrade in-place is not recommended method to upgrade the OS version.
the recommended approach is to migrate the CDP server to new server on Windows 2016 but you have to :

  • Keep the same Name because the certificates already generated use the DNS name of old CDP server

  • Keep the same IP , to be sure that new server will have the same network flow as old one

I recommend you to perform the following steps:

  1. Install New server on Windows 2016

  2. Copy CRL and set http or filer service on new CDP server

  3. Rename old CDP server and keep it off

  4. Rename the new CDP server with name mentioned in CRL extension ( old name of CDP server),

  5. Setup the IP of old CDP server to new server to avoid any network flow issue.
