User info in Teams is not updating

Hi there,
Im MS Teams admin in my organization. Due to some reasons, I had to add some ID numbers before the Name of the user. I did it in Azure Portal. However in Teams app, the names are not changing (upgrading) accordingly. People who are accessing MS Teams on browser however appear with updated name. Is there any solution?

@QILADEDARSINGHCAMPUS-0470,

After you changed the user information, it needs to wait up some time for your settings to take effect in desktop client.

If it is unchanged after a long time, you could clear the client cache and relog in Teams client to check if it shows properly.

Clear cache by deleting any file in the following folders:

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\application cache\cache

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\blob_storage

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Cache

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\databases

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\GPUcache

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\IndexedDB

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Local Storage

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\tmp

We are facing the same issue: the data of users is not being updated. For example, a colleague had their “Department” attribute changed but even after several weeks we still see the old department when hovering over their name on Microsoft Teams.

The new Department appears correctly in Outlook (Desktop & Web). It also appears correctly in Teams Online. So this is definitely a caching issue with the Desktop Teams client.

Clearing the cache by deleting files at %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\ is a technical step that regular users will not be able to perform by themselves. We are therefore looking for the Teams Desktop client to take care of cleaning its own cache.

@AntonioZWOLLO-8194,
If regular users have no access to delete Teams client cache by themselves, uninstalling and re-install ing Teams client is also a workaround.

The process outlined above does work however; user profile updates won't appear for sometime on their own in teams (desktop) and this is by design. Refer to the following.
