Teams: Created a Teams for SME but would like to use private Teams

Hi

Recently, I tried to access Teams with my private account as I expected Teams to be available for private use (but it was not). Instead, it created a Teams organization (apparently targeted for small and medium enterprises [SME]). Now, as private Teams usage is available, I cannot login to this one because this SME account/tenant is in its way.

How can I get rid of this SME Teams and get access to the private Teams offering?

Thanks,
Claudia

The problem still persist as I tried to summarize in the answer below. Any ideas from the crowd?

Hi @ClaudiaFrauenfelderKrner-1504,

Are you Teams’ owner or global admin in your Teams organization?

Do you mean you want to change your public Team into private?

To clear this issue, could you provide some screenshot about this issue?

If you just want to change the privacy settings for your team from public to private (or vice versa), go to the team name and select More options > Edit team toward the bottom of the menu. Under Privacy, select either Public or Private. For more details, you can learn it from:

We tried some more stuff today:

  1. Login on the mobile app on Android works (login needs to be provided twice but it works in the end).

  2. Login on the web works.

  3. Login on Win10 still does not work.

Activities on Win10:

  1. Logged off in Teams

  2. Uninstalled Teams from computer

  3. Removed cached data in %AppData% and %LocalAppData% related with Teams (in Microsoft\Teams and Teams folders).

  4. Checked the entries in the credentials manager (no Teams related entries found).

  5. Reinstalled Teams

Result: The wrong account is still there (even without presenting a password). When trying to login with the correct account, username/password needs to be given twice (as on the app) and in the end, it says 400:

53968-2021-01-06-11-55-07-microsoft-teams.png

and after hitting the close button, the error code caa30190 is shown:

54003-2021-01-06-11-42-30-microsoft-teams.png

Any ideas?

Apparently, there was another account in the way (that was previously used in Teams under the same Windows user). We had to remove this user completely first.

We were able to login to that SME account using the desktop Teams app after removing all the cached files and (that did the trick) clear out all the references in the registery to that other user (simple search for the email address was sufficient to find them).
