Hi,

Can the hostname be changed during the failover using ASR?

We are planning to failover on-premises VMware VM to Azure and want to change the hostname during the process (on-premises is on a different domain, Azure VMs will be in a different domain)

Can anyone share the steps, pre-requisites to be followed to ensure that there are no issues?

    @VJ-8370 After the initial replication, you can use the VM Properties to rename the VM before it is failed over to Azure.

    However, you must keep in mind that changing the VM Name does not change the actual Computer Name inside the OS. You have to remember that ASR (or, Azure Migrate, which is the better option for migration projects), is replicating the disks and then spinning up a VM in Azure.

    The VM name in Azure can be anything you want, but, the actual Computer Name as it relates to the FQDN, Domain, Active Directory, etc. will remain as it originally was on-premises.

    Changing hostname after ASR replication is not recommended.

    I think you already have ASR service running in Azure so i am not mentioning that steps.

    On-premises VMware to Azure

    1. Prepare on-premises VMware servers for disaster recovery to Azure
    2. Set up disaster recovery to Azure for on-premises VMware VMs
    3. Run a disaster recovery drill to Azure
    4. Fail over VMware VMs to Azure
