When can we expect a full featured teams linux client?

A little over a year ago (1 year and almost 3 months) you released the Teams Linux client. Since then not many features have been added, even features that used to be there have been removed!! The client has also never made it out of preview status.

I would be interested to know when we can expect a full featured client.

A month a ago we had 3,410 votes on this UserVoice (https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/40324324-keep-the-linux-client-up-to-date-with-the-latest-f), meanwhile there are 3,874 voices and still no comment from Microsoft. It's just frustrating and slowly but surely it's getting ridiculous.

In addition, @MarianJavorkaMSFT where is the roadmap?

Hi @Benny-9516

I completely understand your feelings. Removing these feature is really inconvenient for customers and make a difference for user's experience.

I will confirm with Microsoft Teams development whether these update can be shown in Roadmap. If there is any update, we will inform you in time!

Thanks for understanding, your trust with Microsoft is our source of inspiration and continuous improvement.

That's not an answer to my question ...
@MarianJavorkaMSFT told us in JUN 2020:
"I know that we didn't release new update for a while (insiders build was updated recently), but we were working on bringing in SNAP package and wanted to release new version together. We are solving one last issue with SNAP package and then we will proceed.

And just to give you a preview of what's cooking now, we are working on enabling Background Blur, Screen Sharing indicator (aka the red border), Screen Sharing cursor, but we also work on updating to newer Electron and enabling accessibility features, like Orca screen reader. Just to name some."

It took 6 months to fix ONE issue with SNAP package ... So when can we expect a full featured Linux client?!? In 2, 3, 4 or even 5 years?!?

At least we can see which features we are missing on Linux and the list is getting longer

Thx for your support!

Nice discovery,

however, seems to be not 100% correct, I'd say. I've been able to raise my hand within the Linux desktop client and the comparison claims one is not able to do so:

Yes you are right.
So new task: Update the list. I am curious how long this will take :)

Dear @JimmyYang-MSFT,

Could you at least let us know what the development team said?

Thanks already!

Really sad to see even broken features in the last release. Join the meeting by link - not works anymore (

Same here. Clicking it, waiting for teams to not join meeting, then clicking the link again seems to work though.

The Linux client seems to have regressed quite a bit. Whenever I attempt to switch over as a guest to another organization, the client automatically switches back. This started happening several weeks ago. I've been forced into the web browser but this is not ideal.

As a developer in a department that uses Linux for our development flow it's extremely frustrating to not be able to follow in the same way our colleagues in other departments using Windows. Please bring a full featured client to Linux ASAP! Or just starting with improved grid view would be nice!

I think there is no interest from microsoft to release all the features to the linux client. Only that!
So they are able to maintain a competitive advantage for the windows client.
Yesterday, April 27, during a system instability, it was possible to enable the blur effect of the camera when entering a meeting through my linux client. No more instability, no more blur effect.
Isn't Microsoft just saving the necessary update.

I just found out that the web application already have the option to see more participants (up to 49). Even Together mode is possible.
So for me it seems like the Linux client is outdated on purpose. 😡

It's very frustrating. Based on communication of the last 3-4 months, it feels like we can call it abandoned.

I really wanted to believe that MSFT was committed this time.

Yes and guess what, still there haven't been any feature improvements. And there is no changlog so nobody knows what they have been working on for the last 4 months. Could be just a space somewhere in the code.

Microsucks is afraid of Linux. Shook. Any support of, or integration with Linux is when their hand is forced.

Keep up the good work! (Just do not be disappointed when they continue to fail you)
