DPM 2019 RU2 backup VM's on W2019 Cluster

Greetings,

Trying to backup a VM running on a W2016 cluster (not in guest backup)

I have installed the DPM Agent and WIndows Backup on each node and can see the VM in DPM either via the Cluster or Cluster Node name.

When I try and select the VM to add to a new Protection Group I just get an Egg Timer

I have tried adding the Primary and Replica VM's to no avail

Am I miising a trick ?

Did on test yesterday, looking good so far. Presume all OK after the reboot.
Thanks @LeonLaude for the assistance, as ever.

Hi @PompyG7,

You mention in the title that it's a Windows Server 2019 cluster, in your text you mention it's a Windows Server 2016 cluster, which one is the correct one?

First check if you have any antivirus software on your servers that may be interfering? If you do, you will need to make exclusions as follows:

DPM Server

DPM installation folders:

  • %Program Files%\Microsoft System Center\DPM\DPM\XSD
    - %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft System Center\DPM\DPM\Temp\MTA
    - %Program Files%\Microsoft System Center\DPM\bin

    Processes

The following process should be excluded from real-time scanning:

  • DPMRA.exe
    - CSC.exe

If the DPM servers has the MARS agent installed and pushing data to Azure, exclude the following folders:

  • %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Azure Recovery Agent\bin
    - %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Scratch

The following processes must be excluded from real-time scanning:

  • CBEngine.exe
    - CSC.exe

I would also check the firewalls to make sure they are not blocking any communication:

Configure firewall settings in DPM
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/configure-firewall-settings-for-dpm?view=sc-dpm-2019

One thing to try is to reboot the DPM server(s), if that doesn't help, try reinstalling the DPM agents on all the Hyper-V cluster nodes.

If the issue still occurs, I would suggest having a look at the DPM logs for any clues:

DPM server:
- %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft System Center\DPM\DPM\Temp\MSDPMCurr.errlog

Hyper-V hosts:
- %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp\DPMRACurr.errlog

OK rebooting the DPM server now.. if that doesn't work will check the logs

Leon,

Belay that, I can now in DPM browse to \cluster\vm and select Hyper-V
Does that give me a full VM snapshot backup ?

Thanks for your help
