Microsoft Outlook search including message headers - Better Answer

I don't think the answer accepted to the the following question was the best answer. However, the question has been closed. Not sure why it was closed\locked out with the answer given. I will post what I believe is a much better answer to this question.

I have a customer who is wanting to know how to get Outlook search to include the message header. Basically he wants to be able to search for a domain name for example and find emails to/from people in that domain. As the display name of the senders/receivers is shown and not the full email address this approach is hit and miss depending on the actual email contents. Can this be resolved as Outlook is in it's current state (this customer is using Office 2007 and Exchange 2007) or would an upgrade to 2010 resolve the issue? (Maybe an option in the search or something like that?)

This answer is very helpful.
However, I found out that the Rule cannot be run on mail withing an opened PST file archive, only on mail in a regular mailbox.
Thank you.

I have not tested this on Outlook 2007. But, I suspect it is generally the same or very similar steps to do this in most (if not all) versions of Outlook. Steps 3, 4, and 5 below are the steps that I think people are overlooking.

  1. Click on "File" menu bar option in Outlook

  2. Click on "Manage Rules & Alerts"

  3. Click "New Rule" (See first screenshot below)

  4. In "Rules Wizard" window that pops up, (2nd screenshot below) you should see the following 3 Types of Rules Templates. (1-Stay Organized, 2-Stay Up To Date, 3-Start from blank rule)

  5. Under "Start from blank rule" select "Apply rule on messages I receive".

  6. Click on "specific words" and enter the word(s) you want to search the header for.

  7. Click the "Next" button

  8. Select the action you wish taken and fill in any other fields needed. Example: "Category" and create a custom category of "WordFoundinHeader"

  9. Click "Next"

  10. Select any Exceptions if needed (optional)

  11. Click Next

  12. Type in a Name for the rule

  13. Click Next

  14. Check "Run this rule now..." if you want

  15. Click Next

  16. Click Finish
