Windows update - Please help with 0x800f0831

For a year now, all the cumulative updates on a machine, which I am supposed to manage, with Win10 in S mode fail because of that error, which is related to corrupt CBS store, caused by OneDrive update attempts. I found the proper manifest missing but it does not install it either.
Every cumulative fails at 20%.

The only option at the store was to install OneDrive, I did.

The problem version of OneDrive in this machine is another. I went to apps and uninstalled it, name:Microsoft OneDrive. The OneDrive at the store was listed as a different app.

W.U. still fails cumul. and feature updts at 20% related to the original faulty OneDrive.

I'm going to try Jenny's suggestion about the OneDrive from the store, since it is the only answer which seems reasonable. No offense but, I did mention windows 10 in S mode.

This OS doesn't allow anything to be run on the machine which hasn't come from the store: command prompt, for example and other tools are simply denied for execution. Makes absolutely no sense to me, but even the anti-virus is blocked : I'm not allowed to make a scan on demand (completely useless) and even to configure the antivirus to allways perform full scans. Everybody knows it is configured by default with the lightest options, which are the most unsecure.

Sorry to vent out, but this version of windows, although it has security advantages, seems to be botched in other ways.

Gonna post back as soon as I can.

Hello,

Please run Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings app > Update & security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. See if it works.

If that doesn't work, try this:

Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if Windows Updates works then.

Hi,
Try uninstalling the OneDrive application directly from the Windows 10 store, there you will have the option to reinstall it.
If that doesn't work, if you have the install media for your current build, you could try doing an in-place upgrade which would replace those files. It is started from the Windows desktop and you select the setup.exe file from the Install Media.

Please try below:

Open admin cmd and run:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:

In the /source: argument specify the full path from were you have saved the working manfiest. Alternatively you can use another computer in your network that has the working file as source.
