Teams issues on Mac

I've basically exhausted all of my options, so hopefully I can find help here... I have a Macbook Air and I am trying to use Microsoft Teams to have video meetings. When I originally downloaded Teams to my laptop, I was able to get on and have meetings but my video wasnt working. I went into my laptop settings and allowed the camera permission to use Teams. It worked for a few days.

It stopped working and I have not been able to get it to work since. I am now not even able to JOIN a meeting at all using my laptop, but I am able to using my phone. (Which is incredibly frustrating because I want to use my laptop to see everyone on the call/share screens/etc).

Ive tried redownloading the app, updating my computer, restarting my computer, allowing access again to the camera and microphone. Nothing has worked.

The error message I get says: Something went wrong - you cant make or get calls right now. Try restarting the app. That might solve the problem

I restart and nothing works. PLEASE HELP.

Same problem here since last week (macOS Catalina on 2019 MBP). I’ve been joining with my iPad.

Today, I uninstalled and reinstalled Teams, restarted my MacBook, signed out and signed back in. No luck.

Hi WilliamsonAbigail-5993!
Does anyone else have the same issue in your organization?
If it still doesn’t work after restarting your computer and Teams app, it recommends you try to run a Repair on your Microsoft Office apps. For more details, please refer to:
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b
Moreover, you can also try to clear the Teams client cache or reinstall Microsoft Teams to see if it can be fixed in your laptop.

@JimmyYang-MSFT I am also facing the same issue that I can't Join calls on Teams on my Mac. There are also a few more people in my org facing the same issue. We are told by our IT team that it is a global Microsoft Teams issue happening on Macs and waiting for Microsoft to fix it.

Can you find out and let us know if this is being addressed by Microsoft at all?

@JimmyYang-MSFT not very helpfull for a mac, the repair is only available for Windows.

We also have a client with the same issues.

I also found this:

Seems that Teams on a mac is broken since Catalina 10.15.4 :(

Hi @RaymondR-8434 It doesn't seem to be related to Catalina. I am on Mojave 10.14.6 and facing the same issue.

I had the same issue on a 2019 MacBook Pro running High Sierra. I worked once then hung up with no sound.

I resolved it by updating to Catalina reinstalled Teams and all working fine now.

I concur with the reinstall. For my MacBook Air (5 yrs old), my key was uninstalling, and downloading the most recent version directly from Microsoft. It also worked better that I created my account and logged in via the web browser version, so that all the Teams set-up was performed ahead of time, then installed and logged in via MacOS version.

hi all,
we are also having multiple users reporting issues with teams, and what we are finding they all have in common is that they all have mac computers.

We have issues whereby some students using mac laptops are not able to join teams meetings, we get "response code 847" on the teams admin area, user activity report, for which i cannot find any information for.

Some students seem unable to join lesson meetings unless is a very small meeting, anything over around 30 people and they keep being booted out or just cannot join the session..

We have teachers that are meeting organisers/team owners and some notifications dont show such as the raised hand feature on meetings.

In some cases we have one teacher being booted out of lessons even when his students are set as participants and he is the only presenter in meeting options.

In all of the above issues, the one common denominator is having a mac computer.. the teachers and the students.

With current lockdowns its not possible for them to have access to a different machine.
When lesssons were at school (Sep-dec, before this 2nd national lockdown in uk) teachers ran lessons at the classroom and with teams for self isolating students; the teachers were using our windows pcs and never reported such issues..
Instead we'd get the occasional report from self isolating students.

I think that the issue with mac and microsoft teams needs solving, they are going to have a lot of disgruntled users..
other than the seemless interconnectivity of same brand products, there should be no reason why teams performance on mac computers is so sketchy.

Its about time they sorted this out.. i suspect apple's overzealousness of their technology might be a factor here.

Mac users, try this (it worked for me):

•. Go to your Mac's System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy

•. Click the lock to make changes, and authenticate if necessary.

•. In the left-side panel, find Microphone and click the icon.

•. In the right-side panel, scroll down to find Microsoft Teams and click the check-box to allow Teams to access the Microphone..

(You may want to do this for the Camera setting in the left-side panel, too.)

•. Once you have allowed the Teams app to access the microphone and the camera, you need to close and re-start Teams.

Allowing Teams to access the camera and/pr the microphone will work on all cameras and microphones on your system.

Good Luck!

I do not have Teams in the left-side panel of Privacy pane in the Sec. and Privacy area of system preferences. Could that be an issue? If so, what else can I do? I'm using Mac OS 11.1. Thank you

I was having same issue. After I deleted Microsoft Teams app I manually deleted /Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams folder. And re-installed application and then I saw login screen. I hope this help for others.

Many thanks for posting, this fixed my problem which was that a particular chat channel was blocked from sending anything, just giving the message, 'Uploading, please wait' and never doing it, ever since I tried to upload a file to him weeks ago. This last piece of the jigsaw was what was needed.
