Storage Spaces is dead

Looks like my Win10 insider has updated to version 2004 OS Build 21296.1010 on 23 Jan 2021 and my storage spaces D: is not accessible. It is made up of 4x4tb western digital reds and all physical drives appear fine. Storage spaces lists 2 drives with errors.

Is this an update issue that can be solved?

Hi,
Please run the following command:
Get-physicaldisk
And follow the guide to check the health status of the physical disks:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/storage-spaces/storage-spaces-states
If there's any disk not in health status, it's suggested to retire the physical disk and replace a health one.

Thanks for your time!

Health status lists 2 of my 4tb drives as unhealthy. If this was a physical disk problem why would 2 of them fail at the same time. I am very concerned about this as i do not have a backup (could not afford the extra space).

It seems to me that storage spaces is far less safe than just using the drives as standard drives. It is good having the ability to replace a stuffed drive but the drives appear to be fine (i.e. if i formatted them and used as standard drives they would work)

I am regretting ever using storage spaces.

Virtual disk check comes up as this:62229-capture1.jpg

The solution apparently is to replace the "faulty"drives. I think this as wrong as 1. why would 2 brand new disks die at exactly the same time and 2. crystal disk lists disk health of all 4 4tb HDD's as good.

Unfortunately Microsoft support refuse to help because I am on an insiders version of windows. Surely there must be a way of rebuilding the pool. All drives report as good physically so I cannot see how this is an issue with anything but storage spaces stuffing up.

I will never use storage spaces again if this is what happens. If I had kept my data on 4 separate drives it would be safe but because I put it in a storage pool it looks like i have lost everything.

I have almost the same problem. 5 x 2TB storage pool that reports 3 drives problematic in the manager. 2 went "faulty" simultaneously after an update. And then when I added a brand new drive to recover the set it went "faulty" as well, in the same way.

After much anxiety and research, I was able to recover the data at least by setting the drives to read-only from Powershell. Doing this brought the whole set online with green checks and everything (so.. not* faulty then?). I safely transferred the data elsewhere (updated my out of date back up) and I'm now trying to see if the issue with the disks can be fixed. Unfortunately, setting them back to writable only makes them "faulty" again. I'm probably completely done with Storage Spaces. What a joke.
