Issue in accessing of OWA after migrating of mailbox from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013

Hi,

Good Day!

May I ask your assistance please in our issue in accessing of OWA.

After migrating the mailbox user from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013, the OWA is not accessible. Please see attached file for the reference.

Hi Raymond,

This question is not directly related to the Open Specifications documents and their protocols. It is related to Exchange online and OWA support. Therefore, I'm removing the openspecs-office-exchange tag and adding office-exchange-online-itpro.

Hi @RaymondSupilanas-4061 ,

Thank you for sharing the details!

According to my research, I would think this issue is about the redirection of between Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2010. And I think I should confirm these first:
1. Do all these migrated users couldn’t login to OWA? Can they login to EAC(ex2013.domain.com/ecp)?
2. Have you tried to recreate the OWA and ECP virtual directory like I posted above? Reset the internal/external URL to ex2013.domain.com/owa and try it.
3. Please check if you are using the Exchange 2013 OWA to login(ex2013.domain.com/owa).

Recycle MSExchangeECPAppPool and MSExchangeOWAAppPool in Application Pools from IIS Manager.

Otherwise, you can create a new mailbox of Exchange 2013(choose Ex2013 database when creating) and test if he can login to 2013 OWA.

Bests,
Lou

Hi @RaymondSupilanas-4061 ,

Thanks for your post!

Have you followed the Exchange Deployment Assistant to configure internal/external URLs and DNS records?
Are you still using the coexistence environment(2010 and 2013)? If so, are you trying to login to 2010 OWA with 2013 accounts?
In this case, there may be some problems with the redirection. Exchange Server 2013 or Exchange Server 2016 redirects to Exchange 2010 for OWA, Outlook on the web, and ECP
Also, you can try to create a new mailbox and test if he could login to OWA.

If you met this issue after you have uninstalled the Exchange 2010 and login to 2013 OWA with these accounts. I think you could check the URL of OWA virtual directory:

 Get-OWAVirtualDirectory | FL server,Name,*URL*, *auth*

62366-1.png
Make sure the URLs are pointing to Exchange 2013. And internal auth methods are Basic and Fba by default.
Or you can recreate it by :
1. Remove-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity “owa (Default Web Site)”
2. New-OWAVirtualDirectory -externalurl "server.domain.com/owa" -internalurl "server.domain.com/owa" -Server EX2013
3. Remove-ECPVirtualDirectory -Identity “ecp (Default Web Site)”
4. New-ECPVirtualDirectory -externalurl "server.domain.com/ecp" -internalurl "server.domain.com/ecp" -Server EX2013
5. Reset IIS.

Regards,
Lou

Hi Zheng,

Good Day!

I can access the OWA using the local (Hostname or IP Address) but when I access the OWA using the FQDN (Ex. mail.contoso.com), I can't log in the users that already migrated from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013.

As of the moment, we will not decommission the Exchange Server 2010 until we fully migrated the mailboxes from Exchange server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013.

Thanks,
Raymond

Hi Lou,

Good Day!

Sorry for the late response. Both Exchange Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2013 users are now able to access the OWA.

May I ask if there is an impact if I edit the Default Frontend Mail Receive Connectors and added the Exchange Users in the Permission Groups?

Thanks,
Raymond

Hi @RaymondSupilanas-4061 ,

Sorry for the delay and very happy to hear the it's working now.

No, it won't affect the Server.
Add Exchange Users will grant these permissions to Authenticated Users:
ms-Exch-Accept-Headers-Routing
ms-Exch-Bypass-Anti-Spam
ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient
ms-Exch-SMTP-Submit

About these permissions: Receive connector permissions

Lou

Hi Lou,

Good Day!

May I ask if you already encountered issue in mailbox migration? The scenario is when I migrated user from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013, it is successful but 0 migrated user. The database mailbox location is not moved also. Below is the troubleshooting that I have done but it is not successful.

  1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Click View, and then click to enable Advanced Features.

  3. Right-click the object where you want to change the Exchange Server permissions, and then click Properties.

  4. On the Security tab, click Advanced.

  5. Click Add, type Exchange Servers, and then click OK.

  6. In the Apply to box, click Descendant msExchActiveSyncDevices objects.

  7. Under Permissions, click to enable Modify Permissions.

  8. Click OK three times.

Thank you in advance.

Raymond

Hi @RaymondSupilanas-6595 ,

Please use the Get-MigrationBatch | FL to check if these are any ValidationWarnings.
https://blog.expta.com/2015/08/exchange-2013-migration-batch-completes.html
Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

If that doesn't help, please check the migration statistics by:

 Get-MigrationUserStatistics -Identity "user@domain.com" -IncludeReport | Format-List Status,Error,Report

And see if you can find any reports or error messages.

Best regards,
Lou

Hi @RaymondSupilanas-6595 ,

Seems yes, as the doc explains:
Remove-MoveRequest

 Remove-MoveRequest -Identity 'user@domain.com'

And the error message: User already being migrated exception. I would kindly suggest you to run this cmdlet on the new server to check if it has been migrated yet.

 Get-Mailbox | FT Name,Alias,ServerName,Database -Autosize

Lou

Hi Lou,

Good Day!

Upon my checking, the account is not yet migrated because the location of the database mailbox is still the old one.

Thanks,
Raymond
