GPO Add favorites to Edge favorites bar

Hi there,

since I am already trying to find the right answer online for about one and a half hour I will not ask you guys here.

We are about to change the default browser to Edge (Chromium) these days. Unfortunately the older group policy to keep the favorites between IE and Edge in sync is not available anymore. There seem to be no easy way to copy or import the favorites from Internet Explorer (or lets better say the %FavoritesDir%) into Edge.

Now I have to provision a kind of xml- or array-ish code into a one line text field.

Well, so I did that. But when I name the folder "Favoritenleiste" (german for Favorites Bar) Edge will crash right after starting. When I don't have any folder name present Edge puts the links into a folder named "Managed favorites" (translated into german).

So basically I have two questions:
How do I get the favorites from Internet Explorer of each user into Edge automatically?
If there is no chance to do this: How to provision the favorites bar?

This doc does not mention anything...

Best,
Norman

    Hi @Norman

Do you want to import IE favorites to Edge Chromium?

If you'll run the Edge browser for the first time, you can easily set this policy AutoImportAtFirstRun to import IE browser settings to Edge at the first run. You can enable this policy and choose Automatically imports all supported datatypes and settings from Internet Explorer in the options.
