Azure Synapse Paused but Costs rising $100 per day

Hi Everyone,
I recently create a dedicated SQL Pool to learn about Microsoft cloud ware house. The resource has been paused for two days but is still registering new costs. It is the smallest size 100 dwu. I have not done anyh heavy processing either, just loaded one table.

I know there would be an hourly charge when the resource is enabled, but why are costs being generated when its paused?

The cost over three days is now over $200 and i cannot see any reason for it. Any ideas what might be happening?

Hello Mike ,

I am facing a similar problem where I see costs rising even I am not actively using the pool . My one day cost was so high and didn’t look right just for 100dwus.. did your problem resolve ?

I would suggest you to a create a billing support ticket to get assistance with bill or usage.

Step1: Go to “Help+Support”

Step2: Under support =>Select + New support request

Step3: Fill Basic details: Issue type*: Billing

Step4: Details - Information provided on this tab will be used to further assess your issue and help the support engineer troubleshoot the problem.

Step5: Review + Create

Note: Azure provides unlimited support for subscription management, which includes billing, quota adjustments, and account transfers.

Thank you for the reply. I will do that. I will also delete the resource since its unnerving seeing the costs rise like that

Hello @MikeBarry-9215,

Make sure that your SQL pools status shows as paused to avoid the cost.

Thanks, yes it is definitely paused. I have logged the support ticket and will see what they say. Thank you for responding and helping, very much appreciated
