How can I connect users within a Microsoft Teams Channel that reference the same client?

I am hoping to make it easier for the users in my Teams Channel to make connections when they have clients from the same companies. Ideally, they would post in a Teams Channel saying they spoke with X person from Y company and ask if anyone had any connection with X person or Y company. Is there a way to tag the person or his/her company even though they are not a member of the Teams Channel? Both the person and company would be outside our company network and therefore would not be a member on the channel.

I would like for a person looking at the post to be able to click on X person or Y company and see who else posted about this person and company as well. Is this possible?

@AudreySchulz-8181,

Question 1. Is there a way to tag the person or his/her company even though they are not a member of the Teams Channel?

No. We can only create and manage tags in your team. For more information, please refer to this article.

Question 2. I would like for a person looking at the post to be able to click on X person or Y company and see who else posted about this person and company as well. Is this possible?

No. You could just see the content showed on the post.

Hi @SharonZhao-MSFT,

Thank you for your response. Is there a way to create a new contact / member that is company Y, add them to the group, and tag them? They would not be an actual Teams user, but people would be able to see them tagged.

Additionally, is there another way you know of that people normally do this? I am trying to make it easier for our users across the country to see if others in our organization are in contact with the same clients or companies.

@AudreySchulz-8181,
You could create new users in Microsoft 365 admin center. Then, add them as members in your team.
In fact, we recommend you make a table to collect information. Then add this file as a custom tab in your team.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. I had to speak with my superiors. Though it does not accomplish everything we desired, I did move forward with creating an excel table in a new tab. Thanks for the help @SharonZhao-MSFT!
