Two factor authentication through phone when an iOS device is connected to Visual Studio

Hi There,

When I connect my iPad to my Xamarin/Visual Studio setup, I get the verification dialog which asks me to enter 6 digit code from the trusted device. Currently that device is far away from me and I only have my phone which is saved as "trusted phone number" to my apple id. However, that dialog does not offer "send the code to phone as text" option which you can find on various Apple websites where you use two factor authentication. So my question is, is there any way to receive that code to my phone rather than trusted device?

Thanks,

Özden

    Hi @Ozden Irmak ,

Thank you for sharing me the screenshot.

I’m afraid this dialog window and related options cannot be changed and it, indeed, does not offer option like “send the code to phone as text”. Perhaps you can go to developer website of Apple and add the phone numbers which belongs to the phone that you can use to verify currently, to try again.

Besides, this issue should be more related to the settings from Apple, I also suggest you ask this question on Apple’s related websites, like https://developer.apple.com/support/.

    Best Regards,
    Tianyu

I see the same problem as @Ozden Irmak . The Mac I build on is on a network and is the only trusted device, whereas the physical phone I use for testing is tied to another apple ID. When I log into Apple Dev Center/AppStore Connect/Apple ID online, I can send myself a text to a trusted phone number--then I don't have to remote into the networked Mac to authorize the login. Since Visual Studio doesn't provide the same option, it's a bit of a nuisance.

I could potentially sign out of my other Apple ID on this phone, and sign in with the Apple ID I'm using, but that's also a nuisance, and I'm not even sure how I'd make that a trusted device in this context. Would it send the code to all trusted devices or how would I go about picking one since that dialog is pretty limited and there isn't much on Apple's side for handling trusted devices either.

In general, though, if one doesn't have a trusted device on hand for whatever reason, one would expect to be given the option to use other methods, like SMS to a trusted phone number, the way Apple does for their services.

    Thank you,
    Justin
