Teams Teams and Channels - external Guests

Hi,

We support organisations with Cyber and Infrastructure services. We want unified org-based Teams and Channels but when I create a new Team with Channels, and add the external users it adds them as a 'Guest' of our 365 account, and they have to switch between their own account and our Guest one in Teams each time.

I just want the external users to be direct members of my Teams and Channels like they are a user already in my 365 account, with absolutely none of the account switching nonsense required at the moment. That goes against the whole "instant messaging" idea :)

What do I need to configure to make this happen. We already have guest and external access enabled.

Thanks

Up to 10 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 3.0 MiB each and 30.0 MiB total.

Basically what I want is like you can have with a pre-panned Meeting Chat. If I invite an external user to a Teams meeting, that Meeting stays in Teams exactly like a normal (non-Team) one-to-one chat.

If I post in the Meeting chat or the external user posts in the Meeting chat, we both get instant notifications, totally seamlessly.

Not possible currently, external users need to be added as Guests in order to access Teams/Channel content. You can have 1:1 or group chats and meetings without them being added as guests though.

@LankyDoodle-7423,

As Michev said, it is not possible now. The two are separate features.

With guest access, you can provide access to teams, documents in channels, resources, chats, and applications to people outside your organization, while maintaining control over your corporate data.

With external access, Teams users from an entire external domain can find, call, chat, and set up meetings with you in Teams.

Thanks both for replying.

Is this on the roadmap? This seems like a massive (and silly) limitation to me. Teams should have been built using the Outlook capabilities as far as multiple accounts in one profile goes. In fact I'm totally shocked it wasn't.

Why would anyone want to have to completely leave one account to go to another, check messages and then back to the other account, which you can't even do anyway if you're on a call because it forces you to leave.

@LankyDoodle-7423,

No, it is not on the roadmap now.

Currently, it is lacking the support for multiple accounts in Teams desktop client. This feature is in working and you could vote for and pay attention to this link.

The best method for maintaining multiple Microsoft Teams accounts seamlessly is using the web app(https://teams.microsoft.com) for Teams with multiple browser profiles. It’ll allow you to have separate login sessions within each profile.

Teams mobile app for both iOS and Android supports signing in with multiple accounts.
