Sharepoint 2013 - Edit Option is Greyed out for PDF's but not Excel sheets

![69761-capture.png][1] [1]: /answers/storage/attachments/69761-capture.png As seen in the screenshot, the edit document option is greyed out when selecting pdf files. It works just fine with excel spreadsheets. I've gone through a plethora of different options but all have lead to nowhere or the solutions were already set up. Any ideas would be helpful.

Hi @Noster-8261,

Since the .pdf format is not a Microsoft Office file extension, “Edit Document” option is not supported directly.

As a workaround, we could download Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and edit pdf file in it, then save file to SharePoint library as following:

Download pdf file and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC >Edit file>Click File>Save As>Add Account>SharePoint Site>Enter Account Name and site URL>Select library to save.

@LiZhang-MSFT

I apologize for the late reply. I never got a notification that this post was commented on until today.

This does work and I've let my users know about this work around. The main issue now is that it works as intended (check out document, edit document, check back in) on Internet Explorer, but does not work as intended on Chrome. Majority of our users use Chrome so it's an inconvenience to them.

Hi @Noster-8261,

Per my test, it also works as intended on Chrome.

Here are my steps:

Download pdf file>Check out the file>Open and then edit it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC>Save it to SharePoint library through above steps>Return to Chrome>Refresh Chrome>Check the file in.
