Outlook 2019 Online Mode Results In No New Email Notifications

Hi guys,

I have a client who needs to use Outlook 2019 in non-cached mode (a.k.a. exchange online mode), but for some reason they don't get new email notifications in Outlook or Windows 10. When I change Outlook to Cached Mode the new email notifications work again. Seems like an Office 2019 bug, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a work around?

Hi @AlexFogerty-6370,

Creating and enabling an Outlook rule like below in your Outlook desktop client should be able to bring New Email Notifications back:

  • Home > Move > Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule

  • Select Apply rule on messages I receive

  • Select no conditions to make rules work on all incoming email messages

  • Select Display a desktop alert in Actions

  • Click Finish

Hi @AlexFogerty-6370,

What's the version of your Outlook 2019? (File > Office Account > About Outlook).

I tested in my Outlook 2019 (Microsoft Outlook 2019 MSO (16.0.13628.20128)32 bit), seems the New Email Notifications feature can just work fine in Exchange Online mode even without Outlook rules. So, please try to upgrade your Outlook to the same version as mine and see if the issue has any difference.
