Merger on Azure AD with new domain

Hi Team,

Our organization has acquired Company B recently.
We from the Admin perspective do the needful as below

  • Synchronize all the On-premise users to Azure on to our Tenant or Can we get new Tenant user our EA account (new to this kind) Use of Azure Sync

  • ADFS Federation between the newly merged organization to Azure AD

  • Can we use 2 or 3 Express Route Circuit under one Subscription which will act as Primary Hub for all spoke subscriptions.

  • Can we migrate the Express Route from the newly acquired Organization to our current Company

  • Also can we migrate all the subscriptions from the new organization to our current Company

Ex: Current Company - ABC
Newly Merged Company - XYZ for illustrations.

Please suggest. Also, request you to share the Best practices articles if any.

Hello @Geeaz ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thanks for posting your query.

Please find the answers to your queries below:

  1. Synchronize all the On-premise users to Azure on to our Tenant or Can we get new Tenant user our EA account (new to this kind) Use of Azure Sync.
    A. Yes, you can sync on-prem users to existing tenant or to new tenant created using EA Account.
    Please refer : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/hybrid/how-to-connect-install-custom

  2. ADFS Federation between the newly merged organization to Azure AD
    A. Here's how it can be done:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/msonline/convert-msoldomaintofederated?view=azureadps-1.0

  3. Can we use 2 or 3 Express Route Circuit under one Subscription which will act as Primary Hub for all spoke subscriptions.
    A. Yes, you can create upto 10 ExpressRoute circuits (default limit) under one subscription and then link same subscription or different subscription Vnets to these ExpressRoute circuits for connectivity. This way the ExpressRoute circuit remains in your primary subscription and all other spoke subscriptions can connect to it. You can connect/link up to 10 virtual networks connections on a standard ExpressRoute circuit, and up to 100 on a premium ExpressRoute circuit.
    Please refer : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/expressroute/expressroute-howto-linkvnet-portal-resource-manager

  4. Can we migrate the Express Route from the newly acquired Organization to our current Company?
    A. ExpressRoute Circuits and ExpressRoute gateways cannot be moved to a different resource group or different subscription.
    Please refer : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-resource-manager/management/move-support-resources#microsoftnetwork
If you want your ExpressRoute circuit & gateways in a different subscription, then you have to de-provision and delete the existing ExR circuit and recreate new ExR circuit & gateway in the new subscription.
Deprovisioning an ExpressRoute circuit : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/expressroute/expressroute-howto-circuit-portal-resource-manager#delete

  5. Can we migrate all the subscriptions from the new organization to our current Company?
    A. Yes, you can migrate your subscriptions from the new organization to our current Company.
    Please refer : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/role-based-access-control/transfer-subscription
NOTE : Transferring a subscription requires downtime to complete the process.

Kindly let us know if the above helps or you need further assistance on this issue.

Please "Accept the answer" if the information helped you. This will help us and others in the community as well.
