I just upgraded to a new Macbook Air and loaded the new 365 office. My old files are moving through the cloud, but will not open in Word. I get the 'unreadable content" error with no resolution. The file tag is .docx I can't see any reason for this to happen.

Please refer to JohnKorchok's reply to have a check.
Please tell us which cloud service do you use?

If your are using OneDrive and SharePoint, I suggest you share others who use MacBook to check whether they could open files.
