Azure and File Server

I am new to this and I am moving from a LAN to Azure. I have my computers joining Azure Ad and I see my workstations in Azure AD. I want to deploy a file server in Azure and have the workstations connect to it where I store files. Is that possible? or does the workstations have to be virtual machine ? any help, guidance, thought on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

I have files in sharepoint and have sharepoint mapped to the workstations and employees can browse the drive and open files. But this is not very user friendlty as the process of mapping is not supported by microsoft, slow, does not stay, and you have to use IE 11 to do the mapping. IE 11 is still available, but not supported and may not be there tomorrow.

Thank you for all your help on this.

Depending on your current environment & Active Directory setup I would suggest looking @ Azure Files;

Azure files introduction

Azure files planning

Hybrid ref architecture

Using this path you can configure file share access without deploying servers.

If you require a fully fledged file server, you can deploy a traditional file server and ADDS (If required) using Azure virtual machines.
