M365 Multi-Geo User Configuration

Just a fairly simple question regarding M365's Multi-Geo capability.

Based on the premise that a single user account could belong to multiple tenants, and the geo settings are done by the administrators on the tenant level, what if we have say, Peter (a random user) under two tenants, ContosoEnergy and ContosoManufacturing, and both tenants have configured different geos in order to store data? If this is a valid case, then do we get to assign which part of data to be stored at which geo among those two sets of geos for ContosoEnergy and ContosoManufacturing?

Thanks fam.

A single user account cannot belong to multiple tenants.

If the administrator set Multi-Geo in a tenant, data can be stored according to the user's Preferred Data Location(PDL).

Hi Emily! Thanks for helping out. I do have several follow-up questions, do you mind explaining a little bit more on them?

  1. Based on your answer, if I'm trying to assign my user account, which is under ContosoEnergy, to another tenant, does the system automatically notify that "this change cannot be made" or so?

  2. Can we add or remove a single user account which has been enabled multi-geo? Is it through Azure AD?

  3. Does the process of assigning one user account to a tenant happen concurrently when we set up the Enterprise Agreement of M365?

Thank you so much.

1. Assign user account to another tenant is not allowed in the SharePoint.
2. You could remove a user account which has been enabled multi-geo in the active users of Microsoft 365 admin center.
3. No. After setting up the Enterprise Agreement of M365, when you create a new user, you could assign product licenses for this user.
