MS Teams and Skype bots

Hello,

since October 2019 it is not possible to publish new Skype bots. I was wondering if there is any alternative way of building Skype bots.
As much as I can see, Microsoft focused on MS Teams and users are encouraged to migrate to MS Teams, however I was wondering if my requirements can be addressed with MS Teams.

My company manages approx 100 contractors that are outside of my organisation. They are using Skype for their daily business and they have to send us short status updates (via Skype) multiple times a day. I've seen that MS Teams works with Skype, so chats are possible but there are some limitations. Since we will be getting several hundreds of those status updates per day I have to automatise the way we process them and the best way of doing that will be with a bot. The bot would try to understand the message, if everything looks fine, it will store it in a database and if it cannot understand the message it should ask for clarifications.

The way that I planned to solve this situation was to create MS Teams user which will connect with all contractors and receive status updates via Skype -> MS teams chat.
The problem that I see with this solution is that external Skype contacts cannot use @mention functionality so it will not be possible to trigger a Bot or a webhook from Skype.

Can you please advise how to solve this problem?

@BrainCornerAdmin-3763 I have added the skype tag for wider audience who might be interested in this integration or have found a workaround.
Checking the documentation from Teams though it looks like external users cannot perform this activity unless it is only a Teams->Teams communication.

BrainCornerAdmin-3763 means Skype, not Skype for Business. I will remove office-skype-business-online-itpro tag.

As we are mainly responsible for general issue of Microsoft Teams, your question more related to development is not in our scope. I will change office-teams-windows-itpro tag to office-teams-app-dev tag.

Besides, you could try to use Power Automate in Teams. Here are a few examples of what you can do with Power Automate:

  • Automate business processes

  • Send automatic reminders for past due tasks

  • Move business data between systems on a schedule

  • Connect to almost 300 data sources or any publicly available API

  • You can even automate tasks on your local computer like computing data in Excel
