Excel 2010 web query

I'm attempting to use the Excel web query to download info from a Google Sheet. The internal browser downloads the sheet, but instead of allowing me to select data and insert in current page, the Open/Save dialog appears. If I select Save, it saves in a new Workbook. If I select Open, I get the error message "MS Excel- 'The command you selected is not available from the shortcut menu' " Scripting of some kind continues and I have to use Task Manager to terminate Excel. Suggestions?

Could you please show me the interface you encounter this issue?

On my test environment with Office 2010 and Microsoft Power Query for Excel installed, according to the article "Using Google Sheets As Data Source In Power Query", I modify the URL, delete the /edit#gid=267133497 of the sheet and add /export?format=xlsx to the end of the URL.
Then use From Web import the data from Google Sheet into Excel successfully as following gif.

If your steps are same as mine, but these steps still do not work, please go to File > Options Advanced > General section > clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.

Any updates, please let me know.

Emily,

  • DDE checkbox had been cleared.

  • did not have Power Query installed, and was just using the Data>From Web path to get the data (with the URL modified as you discussed), but that gave me the Open/Save dialog box.
-The previous commenter had suggested using the download link to do the query. That didn't work for me.
-After I downloaded Power Query, and used the modified URL, it worked OK
    Thanks,
    Al

Hi @AlVazquez-3569

See Get data from GoogleSheet I wrote some time ago. No idea if it applies to Excel 2010 with the PQ Add-in though...

Hope this helps
