SharePoint Site Links and Searches

Hi all

I am a total SharePoint Newbie, so will need to explain this in layman's terms. Our sister company has setup a site with information that we need to access. The problem is, their site seems to be rather ad-hoc and difficult to navigate. So I was wondering whether it would be possible to create a link to their site from ours to display information in a logical manner.

They are creating document libraries with the label "customer-location-contract number". They are also creating a Project List with the document libraries listed with each label in the Project List being a link to the document library.

The question is, from an associated site, can I somehow query either the site contents (including the document libraries) or this project list in such a way that the library name is presented, or at least listed, in order of the contract number? Rather disappointingly, when I have done manual searches in the Project List, it has not returned reliable results - is this a feature of the application?

Thanks

Phil

Hi @PhilS-6684,

To create a connection to a list from another site, you can add a "Embed" web part on a SharePoint modern page.

Type in the Website address of the Project list in the right panel:

Then the list from another site will appear on your page.

Thanks Allenxu-msft

Is it then possible to re-order that list on the "other" site without affecting the source content?

@Phils-6684 Thanks for your response. You can re-order items based on the initials of a field. That won't affect the source content.

And also, you can filter items by a field.

The best way I recommend is to create a view based on your needs on the source site, and you can order the items by applying the view on your site. To create a view, please take a reference to this article: Create, change, or delete a view of a list or library. You can sort and filter items in the customized view. When you change the view of the list, it won't affect the source list. You can apply customized view on your site like below("testView" is a customized view in my source list).

Hi @PhilS-6684,

You can insert an "Embed" web part on a SharePoint modern page.
75947-image.png
Edit the web part and type in the web address of the Project list in the right panel.

Then the list will be displayed on your site page like below.

Hello AllenXu

@AllenXu-MSFT

Sincere apologies for not following up on this. Your input/assistance is appreciated.
Unfortunately, Covid-based priorities have been front and centre, to the detriment of all other work recently.

It looks like I can create a view on the source site, but I am still not clear on how to achieve this.
Our project list contains entries such as "ADM Olomouc-Czech Republic-1720000663". That is customer-location-country-project_number.
All the entries end with at least 5 digits of the associated project number.
What I would like to do is to identify those last 5 digits for each entry on our project list e. g. 00663 for the above example and then order the list based on that number.

Is that possible in SharePoint?

Thanks

Phil
