Visual Studio 2019 16.9.0 SSIS Script Task - VSTA Wont Load

Just upgraded from 16.7.5 to 16.9.0 and within SSIS extension, using the script task, the "Edit Script" button no longer opens VSTA.

Anyone know of a way to get this working again?

How can I downgrade back to 16.7.5 until this is fixed?

Hi @AnthonyGreen,

Please go to the Control Panel and try to repair Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2019

UPDATE
Finally, Microsoft posted a fix:

"...There is a regression in VS 2019 16.9 that will cause script task/component not work properly when editing script. VSTA team has released a new version to work around this issue. Please download the latest version of VSTA 2019 here and manually install it to work around the issue..."

So the installation of the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 16.0 will fix the issue.

Faced the same problem with VS 16.9.4, repairing Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2019 resolved it...

There is a note on the extension page about this very issue. You need to roll back to the previous version.

For some extensions you can go to the Manage Extensions section of VS and there is a revert option. At least in my case there is no revert option for SSIS extension. Therefore you'll have to uninstall the extension. Then run the installer for the older SSIS extension. The download links are on the above mentioned page.

@cooldadtx,

Eagle eyes. Good catch.

VS Community doesn't allow rolling back to a previous version.

Can you detail how to roll back to 16.8?

@AnthonyGreen,

IMHO, full VS2019 uninstall, and install of the previous build.

Hi @AnthonyGreen ,

Please create new ssis package and drag new Script Task.

We should wait for some minutes after clicking Edit Script.

Best regards,
Mona

This is not it.

VS 16.9.0 breaks SSIS packages and script tasks.

Yet another great CI/CD mess up from Microsoft, how many updates/patches are breaking things at the moment? Quite a few.

If you plan on developing SSIS in VS2019, do not install 16.9.0, use 16.8.6 or below until MS teams from VS and SSIS / SQL can work together and fix everything.

Hi @AnthonyGreen ,

May I know if you download proper version of SQL Server Integration Services Projects?

Best regards,
Mona

Same kind of problem here. Just installed 16.9.1 and it completely messes up script components. I just click edit script on working packages and close VSTA again,
then it goes red and says "The binary code for the script is not found. ..." . Installed the latest data tools/ integration services, but no luck. This is not good!

You need to rollback to VS 16.8 or earlier until the VS team fixes the issue. Below is an excerpt from the SSIS Project Page:

There is a regression in VS 2019 16.9 that will cause script task/component not work properly when editing script. Please do NOT upgrade to 16.9 currently. If you have already upgraded to 16.9, please rollback to 16.8 or earlier version if you are using script task/component. VS team is working on the fix. Sorry for any inconvenience.

VS 16.9.1 has just released. It might solve this issue but it is not listed as one of the feedback issues that has been resolved.

The SQL Server Integration Services Projects extension page still says the following:

Version 3.12 (Current Version):

Release Date: Jan 25th, 2021
Build Version: 15.0.2000.152
Tested against Visual Studio 2019 16.8
