Cannot open files from FTP files via Windows explorer

Hello everybody,
my problem is that, when I connect to FTP via Windows explorer I cannot open files. When I try to open for example txt file, I get "How do you want to open this file" screen with only browsers to choose. When I am doing same using browser ( for example Chrome) everything is fine. I found out about this problem when migrated Terminal Server from 2008 R2 to 2019 and users started complaining that FTP mapped drive not working properly. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Q&A platform.

My understanding is you can access to FTP mapped drive but cannot open files in it. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

May I know is there any screenshot related to this issue? If yes, please provide screenshot for further troubleshooting.

Best Regards,
Sunny

Hi,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Could you please help to post the complete error message for further troubleshooting?

I don't get "error message". Just when I try to open any file from FTP using Windows explorer, I can only choose open with browser and can't choose for example notepad. Can't find any information if that is normal on Windows 10/Windows Server 2019, because I could do this on server 2008 R2.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

After discussing with our IIS support engineer, he pointed out that FTP file cannot be open with Notepad and suggested you could try to open the FTP file with Notepad++ to see if the issue still existed. If yes, please help to provide the error message for further troubleshooting.

Meanwhile, since the issue is more related to IIS, I would suggest you could post a new thread in the following dedicate IIS forum where IIS support experts can provide more professional help for you.

Best Regards,
