ncsi " no internet "

I am using windows 10. Appears as no internet connection. Ping out to www.msftconnecttest.com. Symptoms occur after the first attempt to connect to the corresponding ssid, and in other cases, "no internet connection" occurs occasionally. I don't want to change the register. If you are attached to the network in another area, it has never been like this. However, if you stick to this network, problems arise. Both wired and wireless occur. Do you know how to fix it?

Where can I see the error event?

Check the changeReason. The event message can only provide some clues and it may not find the root cause.

If you want to find the root cause, we need to analyze NCSI traffic. However, analysis of NCSI traffic is beyond our forum support level and due to forum security policy, we have no such channel to collect user log information. So we recommend you open a case with MS Professional tech support service, they will help you open a phone or email case to Microsoft, so that you would get a technical support on a one-to-one basis while ensuring private information.

Can you see what "Active Http Probe Failed" is checking?

0 Votes 0 ·

ActiveHttpProbeFailed always means the DNS name for the probe server wasn’t even resolved. NCSI failed before attempting to send the web probe request. The failure could be a DNS failure or a failure to connect to the proxy server, etc. We need check the packet capture to find the reason.

ok. I understand.

I'm trying to get a packet to see what the active http probe failed checked.

Can you see what the "active http probe" checks before that?

I want to see what it checks overall and then see where it fails.

This is a information event instead of a error event. Error event indicates a significant problem. We need to find clues from error event.

As our troubleshooting progress is relatively slow, I would suggest you open a case with MS Professional tech support service, they will help you open a phone or email case to Microsoft, so that you would get a technical support on a one-to-one basis while ensuring private information.

In this way , they can have a clear picture about your issue and your environment by phone communication and live share session.

Value is 0

EnableActiveProbing should also present in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet.

You said "From windows side, we need to find a problematic PC and then do troubleshooting. Like check NCSI event logs to find any clues." What should I do?

I said in the reply above, "There is no Microsoft \ Windows \ NCSI \ Operational path. "Microsoft \ Windows" only comes up to this point."

This is an abnormal phenomenon that the machine has no Microsoft \ Windows \ NCSI \ Operational path and missing registry key. And as I said above, find a machine whose registry shows normal and has NCSI event log to do the above troubleshooting.

From windows side, we need to find a problematic PC and then do troubleshooting. Like check NCSI event logs to find any clues.

If one of machine's problems is solved, then we can use the same method to solve the problems on the other computers. So you can find a machine whose registry shows normal and do the troubleshooting as above.

It's not just this pc's problem. Other PCs also have problems.

And the globe doesn't keep popping up.

Occurs when initially connected to a network, or sometimes a globe appears when connected.

In registry, you should have a internet folder under Parameters. As picture below:

Go to other computers and check whether the registry keys are missing.

  1. There is no "EnableActiveProbing".

  2. We don't have any other workplaces, and we're having this problem in our current workplace. This symptom occurs only on one side with the same PC.

  3. There is no Microsoft \ Windows \ NCSI \ Operational path. "Microsoft \ Windows" only comes up to this point.

  4. Some have hotspots, and some do not.

  5. Not connected.

Currently, this PC is not the only problem, but several PCs have the same symptoms.

  1. Yes (ex: www.msftconnecttest.com, 8.8.8.8 ping ok)
    2.windows 10 pro 10.0.18363
    3.HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator
    NoActiveProbe
    The value is 0.

  2. Comes out as a globe.

  3. It doesn't happen.

  4. This pc is joined to Active Directory, so it does not have permission.

1.Have you checked the registry value of EnableActiveProbing is 1?

2.Make sure you have patched your windows 10 with fully windows updates:

Windows 10 update history

3.Check NCSI event logs to see if there are something related:

Path: Microsoft\Windows\NCSI\Operational

4.Are proxies or hotspots present in the problem environment?

5.Did you have VPN connection in your environment?

Hi ,

Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following questions:

  1. Do you have internet access when NCSI reports no internet?

  2. What's the OS version of your windows 10? 2004 or 20H2?

  3. Is NCSI Active Probing enabled?

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\EnableActiveProbing

    should present with value 1.

    HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator
    NoActiveProbe

should either not present, or value must be 0.

  4. Does the Network Connection icon show a red X, yellow bang, or globe in the system tray?

  5. Does the network card in Device Manager or Network Connections control panel show a red X or yellow bang?

  6. If you indeed have internet access, does restarting the Network Location Awareness (NLA) service fix the issue?

Best Regards,

Candy
