Hi, @RoyalDCosta-9872

Did the senders receive NDR messages indicating the mail delivery failure?

If they didn't receive any NDR messages, and the message tracking log shows the mails are delivered, you may use the search-mailbox command to check if the mails are in the users' mailboxes.

For example, the following command searches mails which contain "test" in the subjects in userA's mailbox and export the search results to the inbox of the administrator's mailbox. ( Don't forget to add -LogOnly otherwise the command will copy the mails to the target folder)

Search-Mailbox -Identity "userA" -SearchQuery 'Subject:"test"' -TargetMailbox "administrator" -TargetFolder "inbox" -LogOnly -LogLevel Full

From the "Search Results" csv file, you may see the folder which contains the mails.

If you can't find the mails in message tracking log, were the mails sent 30 days ago?(by default, message tracking log is kept for 30 days)
And is it a stand-alone Exchange server or do you have other Exchange servers in your environment?

Please also confirm if the senders receive any NDR message for the mail delivery failure.

Hi KaelYao-MSFT

Thanks for your reply, yes we do have two exchange environment running in our network(two different forests). please find below details.

  1. xyz.com (2 exchange servers 2013 )

  2. abc.com (2 exchange servers-2016 ) (this is having the problem).

as mentioned by you I checked the logs but couldn't fetch much of information from it, I am receiving more and more complaints everyday. some of the mails get delivered to server but not to mailbox whereas some do not hit server at all.

Hi,

I am receiving more and more complaints everyday.
Sorry to hear that.

some of the mails get delivered to server but not to mailbox whereas some do not hit server at all.
Have you run this command (add get-transportservice before get-messagetrackinglog) to check the message tracking log?

 Get-TransportService | Get-Messagetrackinglog -sender <external sender> -messagesubject <subject>

Can you see if the mail was delivered(the last eventID shows DELIVER) to the mailbox?
If so, please use the search-mailbox command as mentioned in my former reply to check if the mail is in other folders than inbox.

If the message not even hit the server, I think that there is no method to check from server side.
You may need to contact the senders if they receive any NDR messages.
And please also check if the DNS records in public DNS server are resolved correctly.

i Ran the command, but as far as logs are concerned can trace upto 8 march 2021, mails sent by user on 9 march not found in the log, also please note our exchange has a hybrid setup. we have exchange online(please let me know any impact of this).
