Incorrect DL members count showing in mailtip

The MailTip shows 200+ members in a DL but the DL actually have 4 members. Could anyone know how to fix?

What's the version of your Exchange server?
Is it only affecting this particular distribution list? Have you removed group members from this DL recently?

Please have a check in both Outlook and OWA and see if there is any difference.
It's also suggested to run the command below to verify the members included:

Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity <DLName>

we have exchange 2016 with cu19

it is showing only in outlook (to all users). it shows only 4 members in owa

Any changes were made to this DL before the issue started?
Are the users all running Outlook in cached mode? If this is true, how about switching to Online mode and check the result？

Besides, It's suggested to try creating a new Outlook profile on one machine to see how it goes. I am assuming if this is due to any client-side cache.

it is not showing the correct numbers in the online mode.
i can see the object property msExchGroupMemberCount is 256
i think this is causing the issues. but how it is not replicating the changes

Thanks for sharing the findings. Based on my research, it might take some time for the change to refect on the group metrics, but normall it won't take so long as in your case. Given current situation, it's suggested to run the command below on DC to force syncing AD settings and see if the member count can be updated:

repadmin /syncall /AdeP

Furthermore, if the issue continuesly occur to other group members, it's suggested to try recreating the arbitration mailbox which has the GMGen attribute set to $true (Group metrics generation is performed by this arbitration mailbox.). This system mailbox can be found using the command below:

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | Where {$_.PersistedCapabilities -match "GMGen"} | Select Name,Database

To recreate this system mailbox, we can follow the steps in this link.
