We have SQL server 2017 in production environment with enterprise core license. Due to server load, we decided to use separate sql server for month end reporting, play environment, schedule reporting. We have one server which does all automated reporting using scheduler. A crystral report user who will be connecting to this server. Two users who will be accessing server for stocktake. Occasionally 2-3 users login to play environment for training. Three users will be accessing SQL server through SQL Management Studio from their PC. So in this case we decided to go for SQL Server Standard licence with CALs option, but don't know how many users and devices cals we need.

    Hi @MMShaikh ,

    > but don't how many users and devices cals we need.

This depends on the numbers of devices and users will access SQL server. We acquire a SQL Server CAL for each user or device that accesses the server.

When licensing SQL Server Standard under the Server + CAL option, customers must assign a license to the physical server hosting any operating system environment (OSE) running SQL Server and acquire a SQL Server CAL for each user or device that accesses the server.

Please refer to the SQL Server – Server + CAL Licensing part in this blog.

If you want to get detail information about SQL server license, i suggest that you can consult professionals in this area. Please call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Or you can go to Volume Licensing Service Center support. Please choose region/language and choose to call or have web. People there will help you more effectively.
