Integration Runtime for SQLServer on Azure VM

Question

All,

In order to avoid the network blip and migrate data efficiently from On-Prem SQLServer to AzureSQL PaaS, I was thinking of backing up and restoring the databases to a SQLServer on AzureVM and using this as the source instead of using the On-Prem SQLServer as the source. We do have a Self-Hosted On-Prem IR.

By doing so, I was hoping to by pass the On-Prem IR. Is this possible? Wouldnt AutoResolveIntegrationRuntime be good enough for this purpose.

If I'm forced to use the Self-Hosted IR then it seems to be defeating the purpose of restoring the databases onto AzureVM.

Even if SQL is installed on VM, I don't see any document stating that connecting to that SQL is possible without using IR.

Try if you can connect to it using Managed virtual network as folks here are discussing about it. Do upvote the feedback.
