3rd Party library crashed when reading Active Directory - issue was fixed with December patch of Windows updates

I don't know if this is the right group. If not, please move the post to the right group.

I just have a question: We have a customer who had a problem mit Active Directory. Our software (it is a Java application which uses the 3rd party library Waffle) crashed whitout reason when we try to read the user information from AD. The Waffle (2.3.0) library uses the Windows library advapi32.dll.

The customer told us that the issue was solved when he applied the Decemer patches from WIndows Update. He is using Windows Server 2012 R12.

My question is what was the reason for the crash or what was the issue?

Hello @ThomasHuebner-6461,

Thank you for posting here.

Based on the description "you have a customer who had a problem mit Active Directory. Your software (it is a Java application which uses the 3rd party library Waffle) crashed whitout reason when we try to read the user information from AD. The Waffle (2.3.0) library uses the Windows library advapi32.dll.", then your customer installed Decemer patches on Windows Server 2012 R2, the issue resolved after that.

Would you please tell us what KB update did your customer install on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Should you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards,
Daisy Zhou

Hello Daisy,

I got an answer from the customer. He applied following patches.
Security Update KB4586768
Security Update KB4586845
Update KB4594439
Security Update KB4586823

Now he applied the newest Security patches only on the Domain controller and the issue occurs again:
Security Update KB5000800
Security Update KB5000853
Security Update KB5000848

No software from us is running on that DC. The customer has two Active directory in their landscape. If he tries to connect to our software with an AD account from the bigger directory our applications crashes. If he is using an account from the smaller directory everything is fine.

Best regards
Thomas
