One Drive Shared Libraries or Sync Folder in the local computer of the user Restriction

The user can view the shared document library in the Team Sites from the One Drive Shared Libraries or Sync Folder in the local computer of the user.

The requirement is user can access the files and folders under document library (Read Access). But the user should not copy or download to a different location from the Team Site Document Libraries. There won't be any restriction for my files. But the Company Team Site should not be shared or copied.

How to achieve this ?

Hi @sajithgh,

Do you mean that you want the users to have no permission restrictions on the files in the shared doc, but you don't want them to share the site? To achieve this, you can set unique permissions on the shared document library instead of inheriting permissions from the team site. Please take a reference to the following steps:

  • Access the shared document library -> click Library settings -> Permissions for this document library.

  • Click Stop Inheriting Permissions in the ribbon.

  • Click Grant Permissions

  • You can grant permissions higher than Read in the pop-up window.

Per my test, After granting unique permission Contribute to a user in my tenant, he can copy and download files in the Onedrive sync folder.

The user should not copy or download to user's pc or one drive. Users have read and write permissions inside the folder and sub folders.

@sajithgh,

I have tried to create a custom permission level, use IRM and so on. As per my test, It seems to be impossible to achieve this requirement. The users can copy and download as long as they can edit.

Using IRM also it is not possible ? The Organization wants to protect data leakage so that the user should not download the files from One Drive Business User Site or SharePoint Team Site Document Libraries.
