Windows 10 upgrade through SCCM 1906

Hi,

We have a standalone SCCM 1906 primary site server. I am aware that it is outdated and we will plan to upgrade it.

We need to upgrade windows 10 1909 to windows 10 20H2 version using SCCM 1906 either through task sequence or through windows 10 servicing. please clarify whether this SCCM version 1906 supports this upgrade or not.

Thanks
Sunny

Technically, no as Win 10 20H2 support requires at least ConfigMgr 2006. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/plan-design/configs/support-for-windows-10#windows-10-as-a-client.

My guess it that it will probably work fine, but you may (or will) run into issues during the upgrade or managing these devices after the upgrade because of this unsupported configuration. Upgrading your ConfigMgr site is the proper, supported path here and anything else is at your own risk/peril.

Here is an answer to your question that hopefully you find helpful!
Agree with what Jason said, the version of Configuration Manager supporting Windows 10 20H2 as clients is at least ConfigMgr 2006 and later. In order to successfully upgrade windows 10 1909 to windows 10 20H2 version, we may firstly try to upgrade the version of Configuration Manager. Then, It is perfectly fine to update from version 1909 to version 20h2.
Here are articles for reference:
Through windows 10 servicing: https://www.manishbangia.com/update-windows-10-from-1909-to-20h2-using-sccm-feature-update/ (Third-party link, just for your reference.)
Through task sequence: https://systemcenterdudes.com/deploy-sccm-windows-10-20h2/ (Third-party link, just for your reference.)
