Office has blocked this content because it uses a sign-in method that may be insecure

Opening recent files from a SharePoint 2019 environment with Office apps is giving the following message:

81283-sp2019recentfilemessage.jpg

Going into the Office trust center and adding the SharePoint 2019 site to the trusted host, the file can be opened. Is this the fix or is this just a temporary fix? Noticed that files in SharePoint Online, there is no issue opening the recent file from the Office app. What is different in authenticating the user to the on-prem SharePoint 2019 which causes this? Would this also cause issues authenticating opening and saving files from/to the SharePoint 2019 environment? Users are having occasional issues when files cannot be opened or saved with login windows flashing several times and access denied.

Hi @ParkDave-7012
Based on your description, your issue seems to be more related to SharePoint Server 2019, as tag "office-online-server-sharepoint" focuses on general issues about integrating Office Online Server with SharePoint Server, I will modify the tag. Thanks for your understanding.

Hi @ParkDave-7012, thank you for posting in the Q&A forum.

This is the fix for running into this error while trying to open files from untrusted locations using Office client. Adding SharePoint site (or IP address of shared file server) should permanently solve the issue.

Just in case you have configured Form-Based Authentication for SharePoint Server 2019, here is a reference on additional settings: Did you know: there is an updated feature restricting form-based authentication in Office apps.

Changing the trust center did help, but the user reported continued issues with files requesting the 'sign in' days after the update was made. When signing in, an SSO window flashes without requesting credentials and it gets stuck in that loop. Sign in, SSO window flash, sign in... Other users have no issues with the files on the SharePoint site. Most users on the environment are using smart cards to access their PCs, could there be certificate issues, or possibly some OU or GPO setting?
Thank you!

If this is a user-specific issue, you can check if the user’s certificate is valid or needs a renewal.

You can also try disabling Modern Authentication for Office clients on Windows devices.
The registry key path on higher version of Office clients should be

 HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\EnableADAL

Hi,
I'm facing the same issue with the blank SSO sign in page. We are using Azure App Proxy together with SP2019 and SSO via KCD.
All worked just fine before. Are there any extra steps to resolve this?
I can see that the https://login.microsoftonline.com is showing and trying to perform SSO. Seems to work and then a blank page with the title of my SP URL is shown.
In the Azure sign-in logs I can see an interrupted sign in.

@ParkDave-7012 @ChelseaWu-MSFT were you able to resolve it?

Thanks!
Martin
