MIgration Mover Tool

Hey everyone

Has anyone used the migration manager tool to migrate users home drives to OneDrive before. If so how was your experience?

I do have one concern the company has users with folders with the same name in OneDrive and the home drive. What will the tool do? Will itcreate a duplicate or overwrite it?

Thanks for your help

I create 2 folders on source and then copy them to destination. Besides, there are some files with same names both on source and destination, but with different content.

I find that if there are folders with the same names between source and destination, Mover is not simply to create copies or overwrite folders directly.

According to "Does Mover sync files?" mentioned in article "Mover Migration FAQ", Mover would compare the destination directory to the source via timestamps , and transfer new or modified files over.
The following image shows the detailed log, there is a skipped file, as this file on destination is newer than the file with same name on source.

Hope the information could be helpful.

Migration Manager and Mover are not one thing, they are 2 migration tools.

  1. To use Migration Manager, you need to download and install agent setup file. It currently supports only the migration of file shares.

More detaied information, please refer to "Overview: Migrate your file shares to Microsoft 365 with Migration Manager".

  2. Mover is a tool which is suitable for cloud-to-cloud migrations.
