Windows Server 2016 Essentials Ghost Account Problem

I created my first standard domain user 'xyz' but I think I may have created the user profile incorrectly. 'xyz' is not listed as a user in Active Directory, but when I try to create user 'xyz' again it says that the user already exists. How can I remove this user so that I can recreate it with the same username?

Hello @NickFlach-9156,

Please open Active Directory Users and Computers.

View->Check "Advanced Feature".

Then check the Object tab again.

Hello @NickFlach-9156,

Thank you for posting here.

We can open AD Users and Computers and try to check if there is such user account.

For example:

If so, it means there is such user account in your domain.

Then we can right click this user and delete it.

For example:

Hope the information above is helpful.

Should you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards,
Daisy Zhou

Hi @DaisyZhou-MSFT,

Thanks for your response. I have now found the user. But I am unable to delete it due to this message:

I am logged in as a Domain Administrator, so I assume the account is protected from deletion? Can I change that?

Yes, right click this user account and select Properties and Object tab and uncheck the option.

Hi @DaisyZhou-MSFT,

I don't have the same user options as you. This is what mine shows, I can't see the accidental deletion option in these tabs:
