The latest update has locked me out of my computer

When I tried to update as requested initially the update consistently failed.

When it finally went through Windows would not load and could not be recovered through the normally recovery processes. Through work I have found the latest update is completely deleting hard drive encryption which makes it pretty obvious why Windows isn't loading. I've ordered a recovery disc and may even have to go to a clean install. Meanwhile work computers are having to work without hard disc encryption which is not good practice.

You could not have made a bigger mess of this if you had been trying

Was there any error message?
Where did you store the encryption key? Did you store it in the TPM?
Are you seeing any error related to encryption or bitlocker?

On my home computer I can't type anything or take a screenshot- the update has completely bricked the computer and I'm going to have to find a way to do a clean install and try to recover the data.

The work computer is running version 1803. After many failed attempts to update the process seems to have disabled bitlocker. I will make your answer known to our IT Dept

Are you able to boot into Windows?
What are you seeing?
Is it Windows logo or are you able to boot into the Windows Desktop.

Not able to boot, not able to self-repair, not able to go into safe mode. Not able to back to a recovery point as none are left and the recovery drive which had been partitioned is gone. Going into the C: Prompt shows all directories except the windows directory are blank.

This happened after the update had repeated failed. The computer on which everything went without a hitch was the one where I don't have any password protection on the hard drive. Asking around where there is password protection of any kind on the hard drive machines the machines are either refusing the update or - if forced - are being 'bricked'.

If you are unfamiliar with the term it means the laptop now has the same useful computing power as a house brick.

I should add that the base directory is showing as X: not C:

Are you using SSD or HDD hard disk?
The X: is because you are in the Windows Recovery Environment and not actual Windows.
In this menu, you should be able to open the Command prompt and if yes, then try the following commands:

sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

And see what is the result

Hi,
If possible, please take a screenshot for the error and upload the images in directly so that I can do further analysis based on the error.

What version of Windows 10 do you have? Need to know the Version and OS Build. You can see this if you type in winver.exe from the search bar.
If you are using BitLocker, it is suggested to suspend BitLocker when you updating BIOS.
If you don’t do that, it may trigger BitLocker recovery mode.

You need to disable BitLocker to permit firmware updates.

Hope above information can help you.
