SCCM Client Get stuck on Installing when running 20H2 Feature Upgrade from 1809

Hello,

I recently deployed 20H2 via update in SCCM but when users get the update about half seem to be perfectly fine while the other half see the update start to install and four days later it is still sitting on installing. I checked for setupact and setuperr logs but the logs on the users machine were old, like months old, so it seems like the upgrade never started. I'm not really seeing much in any other logs but would love a second set of eyes. Can anyone help me out with troubleshooting this?82958-updatesdeployment.log82943-updateshandler.log82944-wuahandler.log

Hi @ThomasFaherty-0316,

It seems that the feature update has been evaluated, and Updates Deployment Agent is ready to download the software update files from the distribution point. Here is the similar screenshot:

we could also refer to UpdatesHandler.log, here is the similar screenshot:

And about downloading, please refer to ContentTransferManager.log and LocationServices.log.

After downloading, the client is ready to install the update. About the details of deployment evaluation and update installation on clients, please refer to this article:

The updatedeployment log seems incomplete. It is just showing evaluated state of the assignments. Does the download actually start for applicable updates?

So I thought I had posted an update earlier. It seems like it downloaded but gets stuck at installing but when I look at the UpdateDeployment log it seems like it is spamming

Orchestration lock is required.
LockIsAvailable: 00000000.

Over and over again then reassessing the install causing the install to never actually start. I was looking at a Reddit post where someone else experienced the same thing and fixed it by uninstalling the client, deleting the machine from SCCM, installing the client, getting it to check in, then running it again. However, I am deploying this to a test group and 40% of a small test group experienced this. If I deploy to a thousand users and 40% end up like this fixing it all will be a real mess.

I had to shorten this log to get it to upload but here is an example attached.83409-updatesdeployment-20210323-121231.log

Are you using Orchestration groups for deployments?

No, not at all

So it looks like a Service Desk guy for some reason decided to make an Orchestration group and not tell me anything about it. Gonna have a talk with him. I deleted the group and I am hoping that will clear it out.

So I removed the client, removed the machine from SCCM and installed the client again but the UpdatesDeployment.log is still spamming

Orchestration lock is required.
LockIsAvailable: 00000000.

I have no idea if there is a registry setting or something to shut this off but it doesn't want to let go.

Hi @ll,

i just created this account to share my experience. We see this issue when a 2nd Network Adapter is installed and has no gateway configured.

Disabling the 2nd Network card let Updates / HW Inventory proceed and work fine.

I know that this issue is also known since 1909 but this time i found no fix for it yet. This means that Update Scan / HW Inventory will not work when 2nd Network adapter is re activated.

Perhaps this is also your Problem ??

Does anybody else ran into this problem and has already an idea or fix for it ?

Thx a lot.
