'Find related search' in Outlook

'Find related search' in Outlook works only when search scope is manually changed to 'current folder' .
It directly searches in all mailboxes and shows no result. And when the scope is changed to 'current folder'
the result still dosent show up until we click 'Find more on the server'.

Is there a way to directly get results for 'find related' search in Outlook.
Already rebuilt index.

Hi @muser-0387
According to my research and tests, there would be "find more on the server" option only when I working with exchange account in cached exchange mode on Outlook 2013 and search the old items that weren't downloaded locally, is it also your case?

If so, as I know, this option would be diaplayed when we couldn't search related items in local data file, but it's not related to which scope we choose, so in order to avoid any version issues, what's the specific version of your Outlook 2013(File>Office account>About Outlook), please first ensure that you have updated to the latest version of Outlook.

Also, for the requirement of "directly get results for 'find related' search in Outlook", as I mentioned above, if we work in cached exchange mode in Outlook, the client would first search from local data file, if you still need search all items directly, we could try to working with cached exchanged mode and keep downloading all items locally or working with online mode directly(File>Account settings>Account setting>choose your account>change>choose if work with cached exchange mode or how much time you need).

If that's not your case, in order to further analyze it, please provide me with more information, so that I could perform more targeted tests on my environment.

Hi,

My Outlook version is 2012 ( Build 13530.20528 Click-to-run) .
'Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.13530.20490) 64 bit.

I am using cached exchange mode and it is set to 1 year . The items I am searching for are less than 1 week old.

If I click 'find related' after turning off cached mode, it works and gives me results directly.

I was under the assumption that when cache is turned on to download data for 1 year, the search will get all the 1 year data from the local data file.

Hi @muser-0387,
Thanks for your update, I noticed that you are working with previous version of Outlook, in order to get a better user experience and avoid any version issues, it's recommended to update your Outlook to the latest version.

For your issue, did it occurr on a specific account only? And did it occur when you search any specific messages only or all messages? If it occurred on any specific messages, are there any similarities on them?
If it actually occurred on all messages or any random messages, in order to avoid the interference of corrupted Outlook data file, it's suggested to repair your data file to check. If that's invalid, as I know, corrupted outlook profile may also cause it, please try to create a new Outlook profile and readd your account for testing(Control panel>Mail>show profiles>Add>readd your account)

It is happening in all accounts and all messages. And the behavior is same after repairing and creating new profile.

When Outlook is in cached mode, find related works only when we click 'find more on server' / 'include older emails' . And I am getting results this way with search scope as 'all mailboxes ' and 'current mailbox'.
I believe that when we click on 'find more emails ' , the search provider changes from WDS to Exchange search. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am trying to understand if this is an expected behavior. Is this how Related Search is supposed to work ?

And apologies for the delay in response.
