Error trying to scan Power BI from azure purview

working with a client to setup azure purview and the one issue we have is with Power BI scanning. We have created a security group and added the purview managed identity into that group and granted that group access to use the PBI admin API in the tenant settings as per the documentation. However we now get the following error message: Error (9512) ErrorCode: (3871) Failed to enable the PowerBI administrator API to fetch basic metadata and lineage.

Any ideas as to what is the cause as i cant find any details on this error online.

The tenant id picked up by purview matches the power bi tenant id where the setting has been enabled.

@jamesperry-6446 Thanks for using Microsoft Q&A !!
Is your Purview account and Power BI account in same tenant ?

@SaurabhSharma-msft yes they are in the same tenant so the tenant id picked up by Purview matches the tenant id where the setting and security group have been applied.

I am also experiencing this error.
Definitely operating within the same tenant, but PBI and Purview are in different regions...could that be the issue?
Thanks

@DirkGrobbelaar-0750 That is our scenario too as purview is not available in the same region as the PBI tenant. The investigation into the issue is still ongoing at the moment but will let you know when we get to a resolution.

@jamesperry-6446, @DirkGrobbelaar-0750 @JustinTran-9347 Have you allowed your service principal to use Power BI Admin APIs as mentioned over here.

@SaurabhSharma-msft from my side then yes that has been done. Our current error message has changed over the past day to: "PowerBI subartifacts details are not enabled" this is after creating another group and moving the account over to it but adding to the PBI admin api group in the exact same way.

Hi @JamesPerry-6446, thanks for the update...good to know there is Dev looking at the bug.
FYI, I also noticed the change to the new error message, and in my case I didn't make any change to the service group I was using ...so there's evidence that there's work taking place.
Please do share the resolution if it is communicated to you.
Thanks
Dirk

All, just to confirm that this issue has now been resolved by the product team and we can setup and complete a scan without any changes on our side.
