Windows 10 PPTP VPN

Hi,

I am trying to set up a Windows 10 Test virtual machine. What I want to do is create a PPTP vpn connection to a remote server.

I get the following error:

83652-image.png

TESTVPN

Can't connect to TESTVPN

The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed.
The most common cause for this failure is at least one Internet device (for example,
a firewall or a router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configure to allow
Generic Routing Encapulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the probel persists contact your
network administrator or Internet Service Provider.

In the application event log:

So I am figuring somewhere in the I need to add something in the networking rules or somewhere else?

Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thanks,

Ward

Hi @WardH-0381 ,

Azure Virtual Networks do not currently support the GRE Protocol, so a VPN endpoint requiring GRE like PPTP won't work if it's within the Azure Virtual Network.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/virtual-networks-faq#what-protocols-can-i-use-within-vnets

You could setup a Site-to-Site Gateway from your Virtual Network into your On-Premise VPN, or use a different connection model if your VPN allows it. RRAS should work for your scenario. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-access/vpn/always-on-vpn/deploy/always-on-vpn-deploy-deployment
