Sharepoint 2016 - Creating Search Service

I am trying to add the search service to our SharePoint 2016 server.
After I click OK on the 'Create New Search Service Application' I get the processing page and it starts the 'Configuring the Search Service Application' then after 1-2 minutes I get the below error.

I have checked and services are running and accounts have full permissions.

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.

Hi @Sprocket-2537,

Make sure you create the search service in the correct server role, such as Application with Search.

Then try to run the PSConfig wizard on all SharePoint Servers, and then create the search service application again.

If the issue still exists, please check Event logs for further troubleshooting.

This is a single server farm. I have tried the wizard with no success. I have check Event Logs but nothing is logged, should I be checking logs elsewhere?

Hi @Sprocket-2537,

If the above logs you posted are not ULS log, we could check ULS logs for more information.

Before creating a search service application, have these accounts you used for the Search service, the Search Admin Web Service application pool, and the Search Query and Site Settings Web Service application pool registered as managed accounts in SharePoint Server?

Steps to register a managed account:

  1. On the Central Administration home page, in the Quick Launch, click Security.

  2. In the General Security section, click Configure managed accounts.

  3. Click Register Managed Account.

  4. Type the user name and password that you want to use as credentials for the service account.

  5. If you want SharePoint Server to manage password changes for this account, select the Enable automatic password change check box and configure the parameters for automatic password change.

  6. Click OK.

A few steps further forward.
I noticed in the logs some errors for a timer job. I have now disabled the failing timer job and a new failed entry is logging in Timer Job History, after I try to add the search service.

"Configuring the new search service application Search Service Application" - Failed
Error message - "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.. (Correlation=836fbe9f-497b-a075-8751-3a10360eae5b)

I assume this is a guid, but have been unsuccessful in finding out what it is.

I cant get past

"Configuring the new search service application Search Service Application" - Failed
Error message - "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.. (Correlation=836fbe9f-497b-a075-8751-3a10360eae5b)

The error messages for this seem to be meaningless.

Hi @Sprocket-2537,

For your issue, I will suggest you to open a support ticket about it. It needs more detailed investigation with support team instead of simple troubleshooting via replies in forum. And we will appreciate it if you can update your findings here.

Hi @Sprocket-2537,

Please go to the website (https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/4051701/global-customer-service-phone-numbers) to find related number and call it to create a new Phone Service Request to Microsoft Phone Support team.
