user issue

I need to stop the sync from sharepoint to AD so that users updating their data in mysite won’t update in AD... for this in CA—>user profile service application —>click configure synchronisation timer—> edit and disabling the timer job.. will this work or is there setting I should disable?

Hi, @sns1 ,

If you do not want users to overwrite properties in AD, you stop the user profile synchronization service to stop the sync process. However, there are better ways.

  1. Use AD import as the sync option. It is a light-weight option which is much faster with limitations. And is one-direction sync only passes data from AD to SharePoint. So no need to worry about overwriting. You can get more information here.

  2. You can set the direction of mappings for each property you worry about. Here is a tutorial. Once you make the property direction to import, it only receives data from AD.
