Azure SQL: The semaphore timeout period has expired

Over the last week, I've had the above error on two different SQL Servers, in different tenants and subscriptions, both UK South.

The error then also included: SqlError of "http://System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.)"

Google suggests it's a network issue. I have no clue where to start investigating.

All help much appreciated

Hi @MattArrowsmith-1504, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Can you try connecting through SSMS or Azure Data Studio once and see if you are facing similar issue?

Connecting now via ADS is fine (SSMS no longer used due to very slow load times).

It's just a few times for each customer, just odd I'd never seen this before, and then within a week, 2 clients. No issue with the rest of my clients, I'm just hoping it's not the start of something.

Hi @MattArrowsmith-1504, thanks for replying back.

This could be intermittent connectivity issues which should not be happening again. But if it happens again I can escalate the same to product group and let them know the behavior of it. Please let me know if you observe it again.
