Hyper-V: Cluster to Cluster VM Migration with Storage

Hi,

We have 2 Hyper-V Clusters, each connected to different SANs. One Cluster is due for decommissioning so we are looking to move all the VMs.

With Shared Nothing, it appears we have to take the VMs out of FCM first, then move. But is there a 'cleaner' way? Some of the VMs will be critical so I'm a little concerned about removing from FCM.

Both Clusters also use CSV so are there any considerations with that. The old Cluster was built quite "badly"; the new one I did has CSV separation for OS VHDX, Snapshot location and app data location.

Both Clusters have the same CPU.

Thanks

Hi,

As far as I'm concerned, for the Critical VMs, we can try to export them from the old cluster then import to the New cluster.

For other VMs we would like to use Live migration, yes, we need to remove the VMs from Cluster, and evict one node from the Cluster, since VM shared nothing live migration should between standalone servers.

Thanks for your time!
Best Regards,
Anne
