Removing disconnected child domain from parent(forest)

Hello,

I have 3 different sites that are running their own AD DS servers. The main site has the Forest/Parent DC and the other two sites are running the child DCs. Sometime ago, the child DCs were disconnected from the parent/forest and AD on these child DCs are not getting replicated. Now, I'm in the middle of upgrading the hardware on these sites. Is it possible to remove the child dc from the parent? What is the best way to remove the child dc from the parent? On the parent side, can I remove the child dc?

I read that post, do I perform this on the child or the parent or both?

I read it again and it's for the parent. What to do with the clean up on the child domain? i still need a domain controller on each site where the child used to be. I want to migrate the existing child domain to a new hardware

Hi,

Before going further, please confirm the following queestions:
Do you mant to remove the childdomain or just upgrade the Domain Controllers?
If you want to upgrade the Domain Controllers, you'd better make the DCs in the child domain connnect to the the parent domain and confirm the replicaiton works well.
Then try to Promote new DCs in the child domain and then domote the old one.
If you remove the DCs in the child domian, the child domain will be deleted. All the settings and objects will be deleted in the child domain, and you need to create a new child domain.

Best Regards,
