Future of COM programming?

I have learned that Microsoft is phasing out (has terminated?) support for ActiveX controls in their Edge internet browser.

Are there any plans to phase out or terminate support for the COM technologies that underpin ActiveX controls? Do Windows programmers need to eliminate or replace use of COM objects and interfaces in our code?

If so, please provide links to sites with more details re. the time-line of the phase-out and recommended replacement technologies. If not, please send links to sites that indicate Microsoft's ongoing support for COM technologies.

Thank you.

Hi, thank you for raising this question on Q&A to help the forum discuss COM related. And I will confirm it with Internal engineer, and response here if there is any update. Thanks for your understanding.

Hi SongZhu,

Thanks for taking up my question.

Please share whatever you can about this topic, whether support is to be terminated or not. I would like to avoid the ambiguity of not receiving a clear answer from Microsoft.

Thanks again,
Bruce

@BrucePeters-4490, Thanks for posting on Q&A. If you are talking about the components or products which build using COM, the support lifecycle is determined by relative product group like Edge. You can ask the related question attached corresponding tags to see if there is any alternative ways for those old components. For the COM technologies, I don't think Microsoft will not support it.
